From weight loss cookies to gas saving pellets, I have seen my share. From watching the failures of the bad products to watching the successes of the good ones, I have compiled 4 qualities that good mlm products have in common.

Why It Pays To Stimulate Emotion

Good mlm products stimulate the customer emotionally. In some fashion, these products create an intense “want” within the customer’s psyche. Typically, successful mlm products will provide a solutuion to a customer’s “deep seeded” fears, such as aging, loss of health, loss of sex appeal, etc.In the network marketing arena, we call these types of products, “sizzle” products.

And, Sizzle Products Are Essential To The Success Of A Company!

Simply having a sizzle product is not enough to ensure the long term success of a mlm company. The company MUST offer products that are “disposable”, and need to be replaced on a regular basis. Companies that are successful have a signifficant percentage of customers who re- order their products on a regular basis. Re-ordering monthly is ideal!

So, What Is An “Evergreen” Product?

“Evergreen” products are so named because their value remains high over an extended period of time. They are the opposite of products that are “flashes in the pan.”

Weight loss cookies are a classic example of a “flash in the pan”, mlm product. They, of course did not last long, did they? Ideally, products that are successful are taken on a regular, ongoing basis. And they solve a regular, ongoing problem. Products that claim to preserve youth, facilitate weight loss, ease pain, promote long term health etc., are usually successful.

Finally, a successful mlm product must be at least somewhat unique to your network marketing company. If a customer can find the identical product elsewhere, you stand a good chance of losing your customers. For this reason, mlm companies will go to great lengths to try and patent their products. You have to wonder why network marketing companies are getting so “juiced up!”

Why even talk about the product line? Why not just jump into an MLM opportunity with the hottest Pay Plan and the most excitement? Most people do just that. However, if you want to build an MLM business that lasts for a long time, even after you have stopped working the program, then looking at the product line is a wise thing to do.

I don’t know about you, but in all my business activity I prefer businesses that keep giving returns year after year. I want to do the work one time and keep collecting the rewards from it for a long time, even if it means I take less profits in the present.

All sorts of products and services have been sold through MLM/Network Marketing. But one product line that has consistently been the most successful in producing permanent income is nutritional products. Baby Boomers are Getting Older – As the USA population gets older, nutritional and health related products are going to be more and more in demand. Baby Boomers are mostly affluent and they care about their health and fitness. They want to feel young and look good, and they are willing to spend quite a bit to achieve this goal. Nutritional Products are Replenish able – The best MLM product is one that gets used up and needs to be bought again frequently. That’s how long-term residual income is created. When you have a quality product line and the prices they are offered at are reasonable, then there is little reason for people to discontinue buying the product, even if they have decided to not work the MLM business. This is an important factor in making your MLM business a real business. People should be willing to buy your company’s products even if they don’t want to work the MLM Business.

Convenience of Getting the Products – Most consumers go to the grocery stores, stop for gas, go shopping to buy clothes, etc., but they don’t like to go shopping for nutritional supplements. People prefer these to be delivered to them. One reason for that is that nutritional supplements stores can be confusing and a little overwhelming. Major chains like GNC don’t carry the most innovative and advanced supplements. So you have to go to a vitamin and nutrition store that is open to all forms of nutritional products. Then you have to decide which ones will work for you, and go to the store every time you run out. MLM/Network Marketing makes it easy for consumers to get their nutritional products. All the necessary information is usually available on the company sites and the products are delivered to them every month. This is of good value to most consumers.

Over the next few years, we will see a tremendous growth in the health and wellness industry as a whole. Nutritional supplements will be a huge part of this growth. Those who understand this and align themselves with a quality MLM/Network Marketing company with competitive prices and high quality products will build huge incomes that will last for a very long time.

Are you looking to represent a multi level marketing or MLM product?  In case you’re still not clear, multi level marketing refers to selling a product but also recruiting others to sell that product as well.  You get commission from your own sales but from the sales of those that you recruit.  This is where the term “multi level” comes into play.  Depending upon how many people you have working under you, your compensation will get larger and larger for each sale.  But how to pick an MLM product to represent?  You have many options and choices, from vitamins and supplements to cosmetics of all sorts, candles, and items for the home.  With so many options, how do you know what’s good for you and what will be the most successful?  There is no right answer or wrong answer of course; what works for you may not be the best choice for someone else.  But let’s look at some things that will make it easier for you to decide on an MLM product to represent.

First, remember that you’ll probably have the most success if you choose a type of MLM product that allows for many different products to be sold on the same website, and they should be related somehow.  For example, wedding supplies and wedding favors can be sold with party supplies, scrapbook supplies, gifts for the home, baby shower supplies, baby gifts, and so on.  Someone shopping for one such MLM product may also be inclined to buy a product that they need as well or that is similar for them.

Second, think of an MLM product that makes sense to you or that you’re familiar with.  If you don’t know what a water filtration system is, how can you sell it to others?  But if you’re a firm believer in vitamins and supplements and in being healthy, then you have an answer as to the type of MLM product that can work for you.  If you think that vitamins are a good idea for everyone or work out a lot, you know that supplements are good for people and you can sell others on these products much easier than if you believe that vitamins are a waste of money.  This is why sometimes too it’s good to think about the MLM product that makes sense to you and that you can use yourself or explain to others.  It’s not to say that men can’t represent cosmetics, but it’s good to be sure you know the difference between lip gloss and lip stain before you do!  If you don’t understand a product you can’t sell it to others!

Choosing an MLM product shouldn’t be difficult, so don’t get overwhelmed with the process.  Don’t let this be the most tedious and time consuming part of the process; after all, you need to put some work toward selling it once you make a decision!  So choose a product and move forward.

Your MLM products or your Business what do you talk about first? As a network marketer, which should you project: your products or your opportunity? The answer is none. I’ll tell you why.

If you’ve been observing recent trends in network marketing, the major shift has been a departure from the huge emphasis previously placed on products and network opportunity. This shift is not without reason. At the moment, the major emphasis is on you and the prospect.

The thing is that when we start by projecting our product or business opportunity, we often have to talk to so many people before being able to convert one into our business or product. It’s like trying to sow seeds in an unprepared soil. The odds of any of it germinating and flourishing are very slim.

Compare that with sowing your seeds in a well cultivated garden! Now you know what I’m saying. The old-school MLM psyche with its emphasis on product and opportunity may make it sound logical to lead with your product. But wake up, times have changed!

Unless you’ve first warmed yourself into the heart of a prospect, don’t even consider telling them anything about your ‘wonderful product’ or ‘unique compensation plan.’ And if you think that a 5- minute conversation constitutes a relationship, think again.

Quickly introducing a product to a prospect after only a brief discussion gives you away as another self-serving marketer, intent on selling a product to someone who may not even need it.

So, if you want to attract leaders into your network business, don’t start by introducing products to them. Of course no attempt is made here to discount the importance of excellent products or rewarding opportunities.

The point is, people don’t like to be sold. And unless you first build a trusting relationship with someone, all hypes about your products or opportunity will fall on deaf ears.

So then what? Start by projecting what YOU are! A prospect wants to be comfortable with your person first before they can consider what you are doing. You are the first thing a prospect is judging, not your product, not your business opportunity.

It isn’t without reason that network marketing has so often been called a “people business”. Yes, in this business people join people to benefit from what people are doing.

So lead with YOURSELF, not your product, not your opportunity. Get that?

Now what does this involve? Leading with yourself basically means being people-centric, or people oriented. That means always looking for ways to benefit people.

You should concern yourself with trying to understand your prospects, working with them, and training them in some ways. Of course, this pre-supposes that you have something of value that people need. If you don’t, work at developing your expertise in certain areas first.

The aim is to project you as someone who is knowledgeable in several areas of online business. For example, do you know that so many marketers in this day and age still do not know how to effectively use the internet to reach their target market?

There are millions of others who are struggling in network marketing because they do not know the right way to prospect for new clients. Still others are yet to hear what you are hearing now—that leading with products or opportunity is a road to nowhere!

So there are many ways you can come in and project yourself as a compassionate authority to your prospects. As long as you have information that can help their business which they didn’t know previously, they’ll pay attention.

And because you’ve demonstrated your expertise to these prospects, what happens is that the next time they need help in any area of their business, you’ll be the first person they’ll come to.

And if you’re marketing any product they need, they’d rather buy from you than from someone else they neither know nor trust.  So wouldn’t you rather lead with YOURSELF?

By giving of yourself generously and without asking anything in return, you’ll be building a long-lasting relationship that will benefit you, you clients, and your business for a lifetime.

Many are told in this industry by their upline that their MLM product is all they ever need.  That its the most important thing in their business.  That you need to have the best product and that your business lives and dies by how good your MLM product is.

This is an opinion held by probably around 95% in this industry about their MLM products.

Here is another take on the whole issue.

At its core, Network Marketing IS about having a network of customers who consume a MLM product, whether it is a physical product, information product, or business product.

However, really, there is no “best” MLM product out there.  What it all comes down to is the MARKETING of that product.  That is what makes it successful.

Case in point from a bricks and mortar store.

McDonalds has a decent product, but definitely not the best product on the market.  But what they are really really good at it is getting people in the restaurant and getting them to buy.  In fact, they are the best in their industry at doing this, and that is why they are the biggest in the world.

Their marketing is absolutely brilliant.

How would this equate to your MLM product? Lets say you buy a box load of your best “whiz bang juice”.  The best in the market by all measurable standards.

Go ahead and sit it on your driveway.  Does the MLM product sell itself?  Does it magically make sales on its own?

Another way to ask this question is,  because its a “revolutionary new product, or ground floor opportunity” does that magically create sales?

Its the marketing of the MLM product that really matters.

If it truly was all about the product, then every single distributor in the company with the best product would always be automatically be successful.  This simply does not happen.   The 97% failure rate in network marketing businesses still remains.

So whats really the point here?

Focus on the benefits of what your MLM product has to offer.  Does it relieve some pain for some ailment?  Is it a business opportunity that you can market online?
Then advertise and find those people who are looking for a solution to a problem that your product can cure.

If you focus on acquiring these kinds of target leads for your business, and offer your solution, your MLM product will sell, guaranteed.

By no means do I say that your MLM product doesn’t matter.  If you feel your product isn’t of top notch quality, then by all means go get into another business that does have one.

This is why I love network marketing online because you can VERY quickly identify a target market, and ZING, get your message in front of them.  Absolutely the quickest way to market anything, including MLM.

However, when you get into the “my product is better than your product” mode of marketing, you will live and die by that methodology.

There is always another product out there that people might think is better.

Simply move on and find a targeted market where people are looking for what your product provides.
